Product Description
Cresylic acid is a generic term referring to combinations of both cresols and xylenols along with phenol or various other alkylphenols (ethylphenols, propylphenols, etc.). Phenolic compounds in this family are found in a wide variety of ordinary materials. Cresylic Acid is formulated with the combination of cresols & xylenols with alkylphenols. It is utilized for producing various synthetic resins and herbicides. This compound can also be synthesized by sulfonation or oxidation of toluene. Cresylic Acid also finds its application as a disinfectant and wood preservation. With the chemical formula CH3C6H4OH and molecular weight 108.14, this acid also serves as a precursor to pyrethroid insecticides and for the production of several antioxidants.
The cresols are strong germicides, and in low concentrations they are effective disinfectants and antiseptics.
